Saturday night specials...

My friend at the gym and I were talking sororities the other day. She said she knew her sorority was for her when she learned their symbol was an anchor, something she adores. So, I made her this little nautical pouch tonight. I'm catching flack from the judge about the ribbon, so I may remove it, but it turned out well otherwise. It was a quick impromptu project because the judge, who, at the time, was being the roommate, wanted donuts. How did him wanting donuts lead to an impromptu sewing project? Well, he started watching a movie while I was 'makin' the donuts', so once they were delivered, I headed up to sew. And, I should add, I think they were consumed by the time I reached the top of the stairs.

I've been meaning to chronicle the donut making process in pictures. Once again, I missed a few steps, but I'm getting closer here. You can see them in the pan--these may have gotten a little overdone because I was grabbing the camera when I should have been flipping them. But, note the bubbling oil. It should be really hot before the dough (biscuits) are placed in the pan so they puff up really nice. The two on the cooling rack are glazed but left behind as rejects since they got pretty dark. They aren't really as dark as the picture shows them--they are donuts, not pumpernickel mini bagels like you might think.
